Welcome To My Biology Page!
This is my 11th grade biology class, taught by Mr. Leader. In this class we have been studying anatomy, disease, personal and family health and watershed. Every day we complete something called a 'Life Thought'. These consist of thought provoking questions that usually lead back to the discussion we have later in the day. In the first semester we dove right into content by picking a specific disease we wanted to research and that was in our families. I chose to research cardiovascular disease given that my uncle has had 3 heart attacks. I thought it was a great project and experience because I got to learn more about my uncle's condition and I got to learn how to prevent getting it later in life. I thought this was a great project to make the students and community more aware of the diseases. We also got to dissect sheep brains and fetal pigs. It was such a cool experience to be able to dissect and learn more about each part of the animal. We did not just sit down and read a giant textbook about the hippocampus in the sheep's brain. Instead we got to cut them open, observe and get a lesson on what its function was. If you want to learn everything we did in the class and see the finished products, you can explore the rest of this page! Enjoy.
Projects:
Scientist Interview
In this project we got to interview a scientist about our specific disease that we were studying. We looked at their current and past work and publications to get a further understanding of what they did. We also sent them a set of questions to ask them about what their work was like. The main purposes were to represent their work and research through an art piece and to see how the information they give can relate back to our health plan and see how to implement their thoughts into our health.
Health Plan Write Up
For this project we had to write a health plan that would help prevent the disease we were studying. So there were elements such as nutritional diet, exercise plan and how to keep your mental health sharp. This was one of the main parts of our whole exhibition
